Environmental Testing: The G-Chrome wheel should perform like an OEM painted wheel. OEM environmental testing for painted wheels is generally more stringent for testing than for traditional chrome plating.
OEM painted wheels are:
| |
Pre-treated through a multi-stage washer |
| |
Coated with a primer powder coat |
| |
Sprayed with a liquid paint layer |
| |
Sealed with an Akzo Nobel or similar acrylic powder top coat. |
G-Chrome wheels are:
| |
First a primer powder coat is applied. |
| |
Second a leveling powder base coat layer is applied to reduce or remove any imperfections in the wheel prior to applying the metal layer. |
| |
The wheel is coated with a chromium alloy which is applied utilizing Particle Vapor Deposition (PVD) in new state-of-the-art chambers that have been specially built for coating alloy wheels. Our single metal application ensures consistency in color part after part. |
| |
Finally, a powder clear coat is applied to protect and seal the finish. |
Our G-Chrome finish is similar to a painted wheel in that both receive an automotive standard primer powder coat and an automotive standard acrylic clear topcoat to protect and seal the finish. Our G-Chrome finish replaces the liquid paint layer with our base leveling powder coat and decorative metallic PVD layer. We are currently sampling wheels for both OEMs/Tier ones and aftermarket customers who will subject them to the required environmental testing.
We have also completed and passed a battery of applicable OEM tests.
