Application: Application of the G-Chrome finish consists of a four-step process:
| |
First a primer powder coat is applied. |
| |
Second a leveling powder base coat layer is applied to reduce or remove any imperfections in the wheel prior to applying the metal layer. |
| |
The wheel is coated with a chromium alloy which is applied utilizing Particle Vapor Deposition (PVD) in new state-of-the-art chambers that have been specially built for coating alloy wheels. Our single metal application ensures consistency in color part after part. |
| |
Finally, a powder clear coat is applied to protect and seal the finish. |
The technology we are employing uses powder coating and PVD sputtering to achieve the G-Chrome finish. Winona is uniquely qualified to manage our highly automated, scaled G-Chrome process as Winona has over 25 years of powder coating experience as a high-volume job shop powder coater through its sister company, Winona Powder Coating. Additionally, Winona PVD’s plant manager has painted millions of automotive wheels and has years of experience running highly-automated OEM Tier one wheel manufacturer painting operations.
G-Chrome encompasses the first scaled, automated production facility thatis OEM quality and designed for part to part repeatability. Our automatedG-Chrome plant utilizes a 7-stage Henkel pretreatment system and positive pressure Hepa-filtered clean rooms everywhere the wheel travels between pretreat dryoff and final inspection. We are pursing TS 16949:2002 quality certification. We are serious about producing wheels that meet your requirements and we will back them up with a warranty to meet our customers’ requirements.
